Scads of ants
I live in Minnesota. The soil here is sandy. We have lots and lots of ants in all the areas we try to grow flowers and shrubs. Are ants harmful to our plants? Is there a way to control the ant population in a natural way?

Your sandy soil is such a terrific environment for the ants; it's no wonder they've all moved in. The good news is they are NOT harmful to your plants. If you get actual anthills, you might convince them to relocate by running a sprinkler over the site daily.
