time to cut down roses
"When can I cut down my rose bushes in the lower New York area? Thanks! Chris"

If you want to cut back roses severely, do it when the bushes are dormant, preferably in late winter or early spring just before growth begins, assuming that it is a reblooming type of rose. If it blooms only once in early summer, cut out old canes right after it is done blooming.
