Problems with insects
HI, the stems on my rose bush are turning brown one by one & eventually dying off...I cut part of one that was starting to do the same thing and discovered a black termite looking insect eating a hole inside of it...I had previously tried seven dust & I'm guessing that did not cure the problem...What can I do?

There are several cane borers that can attack roses. Because they are protected inside the cane, surface application of an insecticide such as Sevin will not affect them. The best control is to cut out affected canes, cutting back the stem until the pith is white and healthy looking. New growth will resprout from below the cut.
