Poisonous snakes
Please Help Me! Lately snakes have been hanging out near my front doors. What can I do to get rid of them for good? People who know a little about them say the ones I've seen are poisonous. I have small children and I need to protect them and myself. They have even gotten into my house. I'm desperate! I've lived on this property for 20 years, but in the past 3 years I've seen more than I've seen in 20.

Poisonous snakes tend to be solitary creatures and avoid people. I have the feeling that the snakes invading your home turf are innocuous. It would be a good idea to contact a wildlife expert at your state's university extension service to be sure. Meanwhile, you can try to make your home and garden less hospitable... Seal all holes and cracks in your home to prevent entry, remove any stacked firewood or brush piles outdoors, empty bird baths and/or wading pools.
