Hi, Cindy. I've had good luck with those gizmos that hang right above the feeder. They look like the plastic cap for a can of spray paint. Because I change the nectar frequently, I can fill the ant guard with regular water and it lasts, but I have friends who've smeared globs of vaseline into the bottom of the ant guard, too. You just want to be careful that the vaseline doesn't end up on the feeder or anywhere near where the hummers might get slimed. I'm pretty sure the ant guards I've used are made by Perky Pet, but I know there are several companies that make them.
