Thanks for writing. If there's a lot of debris in the soil that'll make it tough to plant and there aren't nearby fences, walls, trees, etc., you might consider vines to grow as groundcover. They'll be able to cover exposed slabs of concrete, etc. that traditional groundcovers are unable to grow over.
If you're interested in trying this, some good vines to consider include sweet autumn clematis, hardy passionflower, and Virginia creeper. Or, you could also grow vegetables such as pumpkins, squash, or cucumbers.
