Hi Lynn,

Thanks for writing. To start, depending on how large your boxes are, perennials may not survive the winter. But if they're in a protected spot, you might consider varieties such as creeping Jenny, which has bright golden foliage and loves moisture. Or many types of dianthus, with their silvery-blue foliage will eventually hang down.

If you go with annuals, there's a very wide range of petunias and calibrachoas which trail, as well as verbenas and torenias.
