Revitalizing and keeping old plants
I have an old Peace Lily which has lots of new growth. Can I cut away the old plant and pot the new shoots? Same with a Boston fern. How much of the old root ball can I cut away and replant new growth?

Both peace lily and Boston fern produce multiple shoots, which means that they can be divided. When you divide the plants, you can cut away the oldest foliage. Plants will recover from a division more quickly if you simply split them in half, but it's possible to split them into fourths or even more if the plant is quite large. Just make certain that each division has several healthy shoots and roots.
