lawn replaced with herbs?
I would like to know what type of herbs can be used to replace a lawn. We have mainly a wooded lot with tons of sandy soil. We are wanting something that does not require mowing. Thanks.

There are herbs such as creeping thyme that can be used to replace lawn, but most all herbs grow best in full sun. If you have a shady site, you would be better off choosing a shade-tolerant groundcover. Go to the advanced search option of our plant encyclopedia at http://www.bhg.com/gardening/plant-dictionary/advanced-search/ and type in your Hardiness Zone as well as groundcover and shade tolerant to find plants that would work for your site.
