Half Sun/ Half Shade
My husband and I had a nice patio poured a couple years ago. The only problem is that half is in full sun and half in the shade. I like planting flowers all around it, but I don't want my flowers to look wierd by planting half of one kind and half for the full sun. What can I do to make them all look good and grow well?

Hi,

Thanks for writing. I'm afraid in situations like this there's not a lot you can do. If you try to mirror the sun-loving plants on the shady side of your patio, they'll struggle and look weak compared to their counterparts in the bright light. Likewise, if you try to go with shade-loving varieties in full, hot sun their leaves will likely scorch from the sun and they'll look bad. Your best bet is to go with a design that doesn't depend on being symmetrical --- that way you can have whatever plants you want and they'll look natural.
