Bark eaten off bottom of Japanese maple tree.
Critters have eaten the bark off the bottom of my ten-year-old Japanese maple tree! The bark is missing around the entire bottom to a height of 3-4 inches. Is there anything I can do to prevent the tree from dying when spring arrives?

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do if your tree has been girdled by critters except wait and see if it comes back or not.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....
