If your violets' leaves are turning brown and mushy, it's likely that you're overwatering the plant. Typically, watering a violet once a week is plenty. To test, push your index finger just beneath the soil surface. If the soil is dry at that depth, water the plant. Over time, as you sample the soil, you'll learn other clues that signal when to water: soil color, the weight of the pot (dry soil weighs less), and leaf color or firmness (dry leaves wilt).
