Will fertilizing help my bulbs help them look as big and lush as I see in catalogs?
My bulbs bloom, but they never seem to look as big or as lush as the pictures I see in the catalogs. Will fertilizing help? If so, when should I do this, and what fertilizer should I use?
Most gardeners fertilize spring-blooming bulbs in autumn at planting time. Work a fertilizer formulated for bulbs, such as bonemeal, into the soil in the area where you're planting. Follow the directions on the fertilizer packaging carefully, different products have different application rates.
