Should you fertilize newly planted trees?
I'm planting several new trees this spring and wonder if I should fertilize them. If so, how much?

A dilute fertilizer solution should be OK, but concentrated fertilizer may burn delicate new roots as they develop; avoid using it on newly planted trees until their second growing season. The exception is phosphorus. If your landscape soil is low in phosphorus, add it to the backfill soil. Phosphorus moves slowly in the soil, so it should be mixed in.
