How far from the house should I plant my roses?
I would like to plant roses in my backyard, but I've heard that their roots are strong and may penetrate my basement if the plants are near the house. How far from the house should I plant my roses?

Fortunately, what you've heard about the rose root system isn't true. How far away from your home to plant roses depends on the size of the full-grown rose plant. If your roses mature at 5 feet wide, for example, plant them no closer than 3 feet from your home (so they don't grow against the side of your house). I advise 3 feet because the rose should grow 21?2 feet-half of its total 5 feet-on all sides, and you'll want to leave a little extra room so it doesn't touch the house.
