Hen and chicks (Sempervivum) is very easy to grow. It needs a sunny spot and well-drained soil. It grows well with low fertility, so there is little need to fertilize. Once established, it seldom needs watering. In fact, overwatering and poor drainage-rather than lack of moisture-are more likely to cause problems for your hen and chicks. If a chick breaks off, you can just place it on top of the soil and it will sprout roots, provided it gets a little moisture. You can transplant these plants at any time.
