You can use a heavy saucepan on low heat to melt chocolate, stirring until it is smooth. Or place the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes for 3 ounces of chocolate, stirring occasionally until smooth.
