To preserve your treasures for next year, store the fully dried seeds in airtight containers in a cool, dry place. Mason jars, plastic food storage containers, recycled film canisters, or airtight plastic bags work well. Silica gel packets added to the container will help absorb residual moisture. If the inside of a container sweats during storage, the seeds are too wet and should be dried further before storing. Remove them from the container and leave them in a warm, dry place for several days to accomplish further drying. (If seeds aren?t fully dried, they may rot during storage.) Be sure to label the containers, including the name of the plant and the date. Keep them in a cool, dark place, such as an unheated basement. A refrigerator works well if space is available. Fully dried and refrigerated seeds can be viable up to 10 times longer than seeds stored at room temperature.
