Trim old poinsettia?

I have a very old poinsettia planted outside. It is about 8 feet tall and very leggy and sparse with few flowers, though it does flower every year. Should I trim it and when is the right time to trim and how much? Thank you, Carol Temple City, Ca

Hi, In your area, you can trim a poinsettia to about any height. Pruning will encourage it to develop new growth and become more compact. The best time to do that is in later winter or early spring as the temps warm up a bit more and you get more hours of daylight.
