The simplest way to kill grass that spreads into beds is to spray glyphosate (Roundup) herbicide on the grass when it is actively growing. However, you must use caution to avoid getting the herbicide on any plants that you want to save because it will damage them if the herbicide comes into direct contact with them. Alternatively, covering the grassy area with several layers of newspaper topped with mulch can kill most grasses, too. The mulch must remain in place for a full growing season.
