I have an older paved patio and am wondering if I can paint the bricks. If it is possible to paint the brick, what kind of prep and paint would do the best job? I live in Minnesota so am hoping there is a paint that holds up through the winters, too.
Yes, you can paint patio bricks. Several paint companies make a latex stain specifically for cementitious products, such as pavers. These products penetrate the pores of the pavers, which makes the color more durable. These products also don't build up on top of the pavers like normal paint would do, which can create a slick surface. Pressure wash the pavers, allowing sufficient time to dry, and make sure the pavers are as free of any loose debris as possible. Check with a local specialty paint store, like Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams, for expert advice for your climate.
