What's the most important thing to consider as I go about planting new grass?
Cultivate deep, friable (that means crumbly), fertile, well-drained soil to make the most of your lawn. If the ground lacks these qualities, fix the problems before you put in a new lawn. Build up shallow soil with a few inches of weed-free topsoil. Improve friability and fertility by working in compost or other organic matter.
