Work on the weeds manually, hoeing and pulling them. Then if you're working in a landscape bed, mulch it to help keep them at bay. There are no chemical or home-remedy solutions that are nontoxic because whatever will kill plants can be harmful to other living things, from people to pets to soil organisms. But weeding by hand isn't as bad as it sounds; many gardeners think it is therapeutic.
