How do I propagate bougainvillea? I'd like to start some new ones from my vine.

There are a couple of methods you can use, including taking stem cuttings. The easiest way, however, is to layer the plant. Here are easy steps for layering. In late summer or autumn, remove the leaves along a 12-inch section of growing stem. Make a diagonal cut along the underside of the shoot, creating a small flap. Lightly dust the flap with rooting hormone. Lay the stem along the ground and secure it with a u-shaped wire pin. Cover the stem with about 3 inches of soil. Cut the new plant from its parent after the new one develops a strong root system (about a year after the process begins). Dig it up and plant it in its permanent new home.
