Is a sweet potato vine hard to grow?
Is a sweet potato vine hard to grow? What would compliment it best growing around it?
Hi,
Thanks for writing. Sweet potato vine is quite easy to grow if you have a hot, sunny spot (for the kind with edible tubers like you eat at Thanksgiving). If you're asking about the ornamental ones with gold, purple, or bronze leaves, they do all right in shade but better in sun.
Good plant combo partners include angelonia, cleome, and other tall, upright varieties. Shorter plants are often overwhelmed by vigorous sweet potato vines.

Thank you Justin, you did a great job of answering the question. Also, since my daughter's name is Angelina I will probably go with the angelonia . ;)
