yellow leaves with brown spots, that are dying all around the bottom of tomato plants

we have had a rainy humid summer and have a lot of snails in our garden and lawn. our tomato plants are very tall and have blossoms and some tomatoes. the leaves on the top are green and healthy. I have recently planted marigolds around one side of the garden. We have tried different commercial insect killers and specific killers for snails. We have put powders in and on the soil and sprayed the leaves also. Nothing seems to work. My zucchini leaves seem unaffected, but the rhubarb leaves

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately, tomatoes are very susceptible to a number of fungal diseases, and it sounds like your region has experienced cool, moist weather --- exactly what these diseases like.

Remove leaves as you see spots develop to keep the disease from spreading faster. Avoid watering your plants during the afternoon, evening, or nighttime hours and avoid getting the foliage wet when you do water. And prune your plants, if necessary, to ensure good air flow --- all of these will also help slow the spread of the diseases.

Fungicides won't cure the disease, but can also help stop their spread. Look for a garden fungicide labeled for use on edible plants at your local garden center or nursery.
