I have white film on my newly planted cucumber and tomato plants. The bottom leaves are starting to wilt. What is wrong? Jamie - Grand Rapids, MI

Hi, Well my guess is that your plants have Powdery Mildew, which is a very common problem to have during wet, cool springs. It's a fungal disease that can occur on a wide variety of plants. To combat, use a product such as Ortho Garden Disease Control and follow label directions. Sulfur dust will also work. You'll need to continue spraying as long as the disease remains a problem. Also, remember to clean up your garden completely in the fall and look for mildew-resistant varieties to plant.
