sweet peppers not ripening

"I live in northern Iowa -- average temp 70 /50's at night. The peppers are large, but have not yet started to change color. They are orange peppers. 1. Will the peppers ripen at these temps? 2. If not, could I tent them to retain daytime temperature? 3. Will the peppers ripen if picked green?"

Well the problem in the midwest this year with peppers has been the cool temperatures. Peppers require very warm temps and this year Iowa just didn't get enough hot weather. With time they will probably mature and ripen, but it will be slow due to the cool days and nights Iowa has been having. There's really not much you can do about it."
