Steaking Green Beans

"Hi. i live in the Midwest (zone 5) and my green beans have started to mature nicely. we now have a net cover over them to protect from rabbits and squirrels. Do we need to remove the netting and steak the green beans, e.g., like we stake tomatoes?? thanks much. Darlene St. Louis, MO"

"If they are pole beans, yes, you need to uncover them and give them something to grow. A trellis, string netting on supports, or a teepee of poles works nicely for pole beans.

If you planted bush beans, then you can keep them covered because the ""bushy"" nature of the beans will keep them up off the ground.
