Pumpkin harvest

How can I tell when pumpkins are ready to harvest ?
Submitted by BHGPhotoContest

For long-term storage or use, the skin of pumpkins should be hard enough that it is difficult to poke through it with your fingernail. If you plan to display the pumpkins for only a short time,  or use them up right away, you can harvest when they are fully colored.
