Problem with Peas

We have planted sweet peas, and the base of the plants, which are now about 4-5 inches tall or yellowing. Is this bad? If yes, what can we do to help the problem?

It's actually pretty common for the lower leaves to yellow on sweet peas, and it's really nothing to worry about. They may have gotten a little dry or suffered a touch of heat stress. (They're really happiest in the cool spring weather.) There isn't much you can or should do, but the plants will appreciate a water-soluble fertilizer in the water every other week.
