You can start any of the following vegetables from seed and they should be mature enough to harvest before frost in your area: arugula, snap bush beans, beets, peas, carrots, sweet corn, cress, cucumber, kale, kohlrabi, leaf and head lettuce, okra, radish, spinach, summer squash (including zucchini and yellow crookneck), and turnip. For peppers, tomatoes, broccili, cabbage, cauliflower, Swiss chard, and collards, you'll have to find plants at the garden center to give you the head start you'll need for the plants to mature before frost.
