height of tomato plants

should tomato plants be pinched off to keep them from growing too tall, and when?

Pinching tomato plants is a matter of personal preference and the variety of tomato grown. Some tomato varieties naturally stop growing when they reach two feet or less in height. Others grow and vine indeterminately, continuing to lengthen all season long until killed by frost. If your plants are getting taller than you'd like, you can pinch off the tips to make them branch and keep them more compact.
