Healthy Tomatoes plants turned black and died
Much of the country was affected this year by the late blight fungus on tomatoes. This fungus can overwinter on plant residue, so to prevent it from reappearing next year, thoroughly clean up fallen leaves, pull out stems and roots and destroy them. Also, sterilize tomato cages or supports by soaking them in a 10 percent bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water), before storing them for the winter. You may also want to apply protective fungicide sprays to the plants next spring.
