chemicals with vegetable gardens
Mixing vegetables and flowers is a great way to make the best use of limited space. In general, though, a healthy garden should not need very much in the way of insecticides or herbicides. You don't say what plants you are having to spray, but I'd limit the use of those products and I would not plant vegetables near where you regularly spray. However, there are many veggies that fit in well. Crops like lettuce, cabbage, salad crops, peppers, and even bush varieties of tomatoes work well in a mixed garden. Check the Vegetable section of our Plant Encyclopedia for plant details. I also believe we have some edible garden plans you can look at in our plan section."
