When should you transplant a Japanese maple?

I would like to move a dwarf weeping Japanese red maple. When would the best time to do that. I live in Illinois (Madison County) just north of St. Louis

Hi!

Early autumn would be the ideal time to do this, but if you keep it watered and give it a bit of shade, you can do it anytime from now until then.
