When is the best time to remove a tree?

I have a large mesquite tree in my front yard. This tree is half rotten, and I am afraid the entire tree will topple over. I've decided that the tree has to go. When is the best time to cut it down?

The best time to cut down a potentially dangerous tree is as soon as you can get someone to do the job. If this tree (or any other) is threatening your home, cut it down immediately. It may be wise to enlist the help of a professional arborist or tree-service specialist to remove the tree for you. It takes experience and skill to fell a tree without causing damage to surrounding buildings, power lines, or vehicles. Unless you know what you're doing, it can be a dangerous operation.
