Ask Better Homes & Gardens

Experts and BHG readers answer.

What plants are suitable for wet shaded areas?

We have a swale at the bottom of our garden, also very tall trees planted in an area beyond the swale that remains wet most of the time. We would like to make this sloping area more appealing and want to ask what are the best plants to plant there, it is full shade 24/7. Ideally we would like something that is going to give us color all year round. Help.

University of Florida Extension has some good brochures on plants suitable for rain gardens in the state. Check with your local cooperative extension service. Or see an example here.
