wet spots weeping out of Cotton tree

I just bought home with a beautiful cottonwood tree. The problem is, even after I had the dead limbs cut out there is still a foulish, wet, weeping coming down the tree. It has plenty of east sun, and some west facing sun in the afternoon. I have used bayer disease and fertilizer June of last year and again May of 09. I was told it couldn't be saved, but I really don't think this is true. Any ideas?

Thanks for writing. It depends on what's weeping out of your tree. It could simply be sap running through the plant. Or it could be a disease such as bacterial wetwood (learn more: http://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4DMG/Pests/Diseases/wetwood.htm)

You might check with the staff at your county extension office for more information. If they can come out and look at your tree in person, they should be able to help more than I can.

Thanks for writing. Good luck!
