Silver Maple

If a silver maple produces an excessive amount of seed (helicopters) in the spring, is that a problem? The tree is about 25 years old, 40 feet tall, 20 inch diameter, and other than excessive production of seed, it seems to be just fine. I was told that it wasn't a good sign and now I'm concerned. I would appreciate your comments. Sincerely, Carolsue Donabar

Heavy seed production can be a sign of stress in the tree, but if it is growing well otherwise, that's not likely to be the case. Some weather conditions also promote heavy seed set.
