Shrubs

What are some low growing shrubs to plant behind my sidewalk next to my house? The pool is off this sidewalk... Now I have Burberry and Japaneese yews which is entirely to large. Please help!!!! Want to make it simple to maintain. Mjones Tuscaloosa, Al
