Screwing Bracket into Tree Trink for Swing?

I have a mature sweet birch tree in my back yard. Eventhough the tree is about three storeys tall, none of the branches seem strong enough to support a swing. If I were to screw a bracket into the trunk of the tree and then hang a swing from that bracket, would the tree sustain any damage? Have you heard of this being done before as a potential solution? Or should I give up on my wish for a tree swing? Thank you.

I would avoid doing this to a birch tree. They are soft-wooded and might not hold your tree swing. If it was an oak or hard maple I might say ""go ahead"", but since it's a birch, I think you should cancel your plans for a swing.
