Rhododendron leaves are brown

I live on the Avalon peninsula on the east coast of Newfoundland and my rhododendron looks dead. It's 3 years old and until this spring it was healthy. The leaves have turned brown and are falling off. There are some buds that are tiny and haven't changed much in the last few weeks but they are kind of yellowy green. Maybe all is not lost?

Browning leaves on rhododendron at this time of year are an indication of winter injury to the plant. If the buds are still green, it's possible that it may sprout from the buds and grow back.  I'd give it a few more weeks. On occasion I've had plants not resprout until late June or early July.
