Prune Everygreen Shrubs

I have an evergreen shrub commonly known as "golden mop". Can this scrub be pruned to control the size? If so, what is the best rules to follow.

Hi,

Thanks for writing. You can prune your golden mops (Chamaecyparis). The best time to do so is autumn or winter.

As to how to prune it, I'd prune lightly to help maintain the plant's graceful natural shape. It doesn't usually respond well to hard pruning.
