Non blooming crepe myrtle trees and bushes

"Our crepe myrtle trees and bushes are three years old. They were blooming when we planted them and did again the second year. However, this year there have been no blooms. Also when is a good time to trim and shape these trees and bushes?"

Thanks for writing. Without being able to see your crape myrtles, I can't say why they're not blooming. There's a large number of reason that could affect blooming, including too much shade, soil that's too rich or not rich enough, pruning too frequently, and problems from disease and insects.

Prune crape myrtles when they're dormant, from late fall to early spring.
