I have a gardenia plant. it had many buds but they fell off before they bloomed. how can I get the plant to have buds that will open up all the way?

Thanks for writing. Gardenias are very susceptible to stress and will drop their flower buds if they're moved, repotted, etc. while they have buds. They respond to shock by dropping buds, as well -- so if they get too hot, too dry, too wet, etc. they may abort their flowers.

It's best to grow them in soil with an acidic pH and where they won't be disturbed. Keep them evenly watered and feed them with a general-purpose plant food in spring and summer.
