Experts and BHG readers answer.
My purple lilac has hardly any color this year. How can I ensure better color next year?
Flower color is influenced by a number of conditions, including the weather. For example, warmer temperatures often encourage paler blooms; cooler temperatures often encourage more intense blooms. Soil moisture plays a part too: If your plant is dry, the flowers will be paler. It's unlikely that the flower color will permanently be pale. Be patient and hope for better weather next year.
