How to get rid of Sumac

I have a Sumac tree that is growing outside my patio.I don't know how it got there it wasn't planted This tree is sending shoots everywhere,it is certainly very invasive. How do I get rid of the shoots,that are sprouting and spreading inside my patio,also will it comprimise the foundation of the house. thankyou Ruth

Hi, Sumac can be very difficult to get rid of. I would cut the main trunk (and any other trunks you find) down to the ground and then brush the exposed surface of the tree with a brush-killing herbicide. You can buy brush killers at places like Home Depot and Lowes. Just be sure sumac is mentioned on the label.
