Frost and Magnolia tree

I planted a magnolia tree then we got 4 days of heavy frost. It was beginning to bud and was doing ok, now everything is gone. How can I tell if it will be ok? Is there anything I should do to help it along? Thanks.

Your new tree should be fine in the long run, but it has lost the bloom for this year. Wait and watch for signs of new leaves. Once you can see clearly where the dead areas are, prune out damaged branches. You can help the tree get established in its new location by watering well, and fertilizing in spring and midsummer.
