Flowering White Dogwood Tree Replanting

I live in Central Virginia where Dogwoods grow wild. Is there a way to easily transplant small dogwoods to my newly landscaped yard? If so, can you tell me how far I need to dig the root system up and how to best take care of the new transplant once moved? Thank you!

You may have some luck moving small young trees, but it is best to purchase a container grown plant from a nursery. Dogwoods can be particular about root disturbance and changes in light conditions, and there are questions about collecting plants from the wild. In some areas it is illegal. For excellent information on dogwoods, see this page from the United States National Arboretum. www.usna.usda.gov/Gardens/faqs/dogwoodfaq2.html
